"California’s land, coast and waterways make California a beautiful and unique place to live. Gavin will work to keep these resources unpolluted and open to all Californians through fostering new policies to expand public access and protect land and water from pollution and inappropriate uses."
Throughout his time in politics Gavin Newsom has been a strong and promising voice for the environment. He is a member of some very important state commissions, such as the State Lands Commission and the Ocean Protection Council. Not only has he continually stated and shown his commitment to the environment, but he has also outlined and detailed what his goals as Lieutenant Governor would be, including: conserving natural resources by fighting offshore drilling, using his seat on the State Lands Commission to maximize state owned open-spaces, working to implement the newly passed Marine Life Protection Act, promoting sustainable fisheries and gaining permanent funding for the coastal commissions; and fighting climate change and transitioning to renewable energy through research and policy. During his time as Mayor of San Francisco he demonstrated his environmental dedication by making the city one of the nations most progressive looking cities through regulation and policy. He also has shown an amazing ability to bring people together for environmental goals, as he did by catalyzing an international movement of Mayors for urban environmentalism.
